Last week we celebrated Volunteer’s Week. Celebrated annually, charities come together to thank the volunteers they have, and promote volunteering opportunities that are available.
We took to social media to thank the volunteers we currently have. We shared the story of Connor, one of our Youth Team volunteers. He describes his role as “helping out the staff to ensure everyone in the session has a good time. I also get feedback from the groups of young people and use their activity ideas for future sessions”. He discusses how he attended The Hut Youth Centre as a young person, so he wanted to give something back to somewhere that mattered to him. Connor also said what he most enjoys about volunteering is “helping young people during the sessions with anything they need, for example learning new skills. It’s fun to meet new young people and teach them how to play pool, or play Mario Kart with them”.
We also thanked our Trustees past and present, all of whom do not get paid for their key role in shaping the charity’s vision and guiding us forwards. We’ll be learning more about the work they do during Trustees’ Week in November!
We also used Volunteers’ Week as an opportunity to recruit for more volunteers. Volunteers help our charity deliver our mission to create communities where children and young people thrive. We are always on the lookout for motivated individuals who want to make a difference to their local communities!
