Update - We did it!
On Friday 7th February a group of 4 young people along with a team of youth workers from Child Dynamix, took part in Sleep Easy 2020 at Wilberforce College in Hull. The event, which is run by YMCA Humber, is a fundraising and awareness campaign that raises money to support homeless or vulnerable young people in the area that need help to live independently. Participants spend the night outside “sleeping rough so others don’t have to”, in self-made cardboard shelters.
This is an event that the Child Dynamix youth team have supported for around 7 years now, and the money raised comes directly into the charity to support local young people to live independently, or find safe and secure accommodation – with 10% of funding going directly to YMCA Humber.
Taking part was a rewarding experience for the young people, as they were able to gain a greater understanding and empathy for issues of homelessness, as well as work as a team, and build relationships with peers and staff.
Some of the highlights of the evening included winning the Best Shelter Award (3rd year in a row), taking part in the quiz, and spending time in the den playing hangman on the cardboard walls. Although most of the group managed to get ‘some’ sleep, the blustery winds made for a very chilly February night.
All money raised from the event will come back to us to support local young people facing homelessness or living independently.
You can STILL support them by clicking the link and donating £5, £10, £20 or anything you can spare!
