Our Community Toy Library is equipped with various toys including; games, puzzles, dolls, animals, dress up costumes and sensory equipment. All toys are appropriate for children aged 0-5 and beyond with the purpose of providing local families with additional means to support their children’s personal development. The scheme is a free scheme to access for families living in our local area.
Each family who registers to use our Community Toy Library service will receive a family lending card, much the same principle as with a book library. The families will be able to borrow three toys for a period of up to three weeks and on the return of the toys, they are then able to borrow three more.
Reception staff monitor the borrowing of toys and if necessary send a reminder to families if they do not return the item by the date required to remind them. We realise that from time to time some toys could be damaged or lost during a lending period and we would not like this worry for a parent to become a barrier to accessing this free resource. Therefore we do not enforce any form of fine or charge for lost or broken toys. However, at the point of registration, we do ask parents agree to take responsibility for toys to enable the charity’s continued lending of toys to families in the local community.
Our Community Toy Library has benefitted from small funding grants to increase the number and type of toys available for families. When the charity receives toy donations they are checked where appropriate added to the Toy Library.
Ask at the reception at Little Stars Children's Centre for more details or to sign up to access our Community Toy Library.
