Background

Hull Young Advisors have a history in Hull going back 5 years. When Young Advisors were first launched nationally Hull was one of the pioneering cities that adopted the scheme in the Preston Road New Deal for Communities area. Those young people involved in the first wave of young advisor’s have now moved on in their chosen careers, some becoming youth workers.
In 2008 we trained a second cohort of 9 young people during the Easter holidays. Out of the 9 young people (aged 15-18, 6 female-3 male) who successfully completed the training, one young person is now employed as a Youth Worker and two young people are on the Youth Work Apprenticeship Scheme, whilst 2 young people are still active Advisors.

Last year, again during the Easter Holiday we trained a third cohort of 13 young people, kindly funded by NHS Hull. Again 3 young people have positively moved on in their careers. We now have a team of 12 Young Advisors, 7 female and 5 male, aged between 16 and 19, supported by 2 part time workers. All 12 Advisors have undertaken various pieces of commissioned work and successfully organised and presented the Launch of ‘Hull Young Advisors 2009’ on 15th December 2009.

Hull Young Advisors are supported by DOC (Developing Our Communities) who provide the full time Lead Worker (these posts are financially supported by Youth Dynamix, DOC, Hull Youth Council and Hull City Councils Children and Young people.
